Letter from our President

The story of Women in Eyecare (WiE) is a testament to the power of inspiration and collective action. It all began in 2021, shortly after attending the first post-pandemic Women in Ophthalmology meeting. That experience left me feeling incredibly empowered, not just by the knowledge shared but by the sense of camaraderie among women in the field. It was a powerful push to strive for excellence. Upon returning to Miami, I had the opportunity to connect with colleagues who had attended similar gatherings within their respective groups. What became apparent was that we had all shared the same sentiments of empowerment and a desire to extend this support and motivation to a broader community. This shared vision led to a pivotal moment where a group of passionate individuals, including optometrists, ophthalmologists, industry representatives, and more, decided to act.
We initiated a group chat that quickly grew to over 100 members, each bringing their unique experiences, knowledge, and support to the table. As our interactions flourished, it became evident that we needed to transform this shared enthusiasm into something tangible. Thus, Women in Eyecare was born—a collaborative effort representing a diverse spectrum of women, including ophthalmologists, optometrists, managers, lawyers, industry leaders, businesswomen, mothers, daughters, and hardworking individuals with a shared commitment to growth.
Our primary objective is simple but powerful: to replicate the empowerment, the drive for improvement, and the unwavering support that we experienced. We want every woman to know that it’s okay to aim high, that we are capable of achieving our goals, and that we are worth every opportunity that comes out way. We want to foster an environment that we can all succeed.
To ensure that our mission is guided by diverse perspectives and voices, we have established an equally represented board that will help us navigate the path towards our shared goal. It’s a journey we’re excited to embark upon, and we invite you to join us.
Together, as Women in Eyecare, we can achieve it all—empowerment, growth, and lasting change.
Join us in this inspiring journey,
Analisa Arosemena MD
